Urban Art 2013 – 13th & 14th July

This open air Art Fair was started in 2002 by residents wanting to raise money for street improvements (in particular the Rush Common areas of the Avenue), create a positive event for the community and provide an affordable exhibition space for local artists. The event works by residents donating their railings in exchange for a 10% commission on work sold by exhibitors. This commission is then shared by the charity partners and the residents who each supply volunteers necessary for the whole thing to work.

This formula has grown the event from just 35 artists exhibiting on a Saturday, to the now well loved two day art extravaganza with over one hundred and seventy photographers, printers and painters exhibiting, and drawing in thousands of visitors from all over London.  This unique event is a great way to meet artists face to face, hopefully pick up a bargain, and with prices ranging from under a tenner to over a thousand pounds this truly is an affordable event for all art lovers, whatever your budget.

As well as a seeing a wealth of visual art, visitors can also taste a mouth watering selection of cuisine at our fantastic food stalls provided by local food suppliers. Live Art is provided by graffiti artists Mr Cenz and Aero from Positive Arts who will be creating stunning new works on our Urban Art Walls as well as running a workshop with the kids from Jubilee Primary School.

This year’s event will take place the weekend 13th and 14th July so please make a note in your diary (this is the weekend BEFORE the Lambeth Country Show).

Last year we raised over £4,000 for our charity partners Holy Trinity School, Jubilee Primary School, Southside Rehabilitation Centre and the Josephine Avenue Group, but we cannot do this without your support. If you wish to become more involved please contact us through the Urban Art web site www.urbanart.co.uk
