4. SAFETY IN LAMBETH Christopher D’Souza is our Community Safety Officer from Lambeth Council.

His email is cdsouza @ lambeth.gov.uk and he would like us to communicate any concerns we may have to him directly.

      Chris informed us:

      1) Lambeth is currently setting up ‘Safer Neighbourhood Teams’ across the

Borough, to include 1 sergeant, 2 PC’s and 3 Community Police Officers in

each ward. This will be fully operational by December 2008.

      2) Further improvements in street lighting could be made by the removal of

overhanging tree branches where they impede light.

However, costs of work must be borne by the landowner if the tree is on

private land and prior planning permission must be given.

      3) Lambeth operates a RAPID RESPONSE UNIT: 0208 926 8000

for all community safety issues including the collection and disposal of

used needles and condoms left in the street and gardens.

Chris suggests we post the number on the street notice board.

      4) The number of crack houses in the area has been much reduced in recent

           months.

      5) Environmental improvements like the new Tulse Hill pavement diminish

          anti social behaviour.

5. CPZ: It was the groups opinion that operating hours should be 9am-4pm and that the consultation document clearly demonstrates a preference for no longer than 8 operating hours across the zone.
