Minutes for the Josephine Avenue Group AGM,Wednesday 15th January 2003.

Those present, Elizabeth Owen, Melissa Hadley and Timothy Sutton (secretary).

Apologies  Simon Bond, Sue Bond and Maurey Lancaster.

As only three members were present there were insufficient numbers to form a quorum and therefore no JAG decisions could be taken. However, the following topics were discussed:

1. Tree surgery work - Elizabeth reported that roughly half the tree surgeon companies have replied with quotes for the work to be done in the avenue. Prices vary but the average is roughly £265 (+VAT). London and Quadrant Housing have offered to organise their own work to be done at numbers 2 and 16 which will reduce this by roughly £90 (+VAT). Ian Lennard (Lambeth Tree Preservation Officer) has confirmed that he has received our application and that it is now being processed. A finally decision as to who will do the work will be made at the next JAG meeting based on the quotes that have been received by that date (see ‘date of next meeting’ below).

2. Dumped CArs - It was noted that Step Forward Housing have now removed the two dumped cars from outside number 50 Josephine Avenue. It was thought that a letter of thanks would be appropriate.

3. Carpet Right Forecourt - The gates outside Carpet Right / Harveys forecourt are still being left open at night and it was suggested that further action should be discussed at the next meeting.

4. Telecommunication Mast - Elizabeth reported that the planning permission for the telecommunication mast on Brixton Water Lane (Tulse Hill end) has been declined by Lambeth Council.

5. Derelict Site 85 Brixton Hill - Tim has received an email from Jackie Meldrum (local councillor) informing the group of developments on the derelict site at Brixton Hill end of Josephine Avenue. The owner of the site has put in several applications over the years to build on the site but all have been turned down by the council on grounds of ‘over-development’. The present situation has reached a stalemate with little prospect of anything being done in the near future. However, Jackie Meldrum has suggested that it might be possible for the Council to commence Compulsory Purchase proceedings. Those present at the meeting thought this a good idea.

6. Job centre frontage - (agenda topic emailed from Garry Turnbull). Those present at the meeting agreed with Garry that the frontage of the Job Centre was getting very shabby and that a JAG letter (drafted by Garry) should be sent asking for some action to be taken on this matter.

7. To do list:

Tim Sutton Thank you letter to Step Forward Housing.

Elizabeth Collate tree surgeons quotes for next meeting

(Garry Turnbull Draft letter for Job Centre)

8. Date for next JAG meeting will be Wednesday 12th February 2003 at 1 Helix Gardens, 7.30pm.

Meeting closed at 9.00pm.
